o to have life .. life acociated with this movie is making it ur own and individual every person to their own peom and story for theiir life and for the new joys is the satisfaction of finding giftsand talentsin life as you live it and find wholeness in finding something for u amongst the unknown

to indeed be a god.... simple a god is said to be able to do what he likes so as each individual we can do as we want be our own gods as we chose our own path in live and take our own control

Great essay! I watched this movie again last night after a long time and with deeper eyes, and just realised how much like Todd I was, and why I always felt so attached to his character.

As I searched the internet for discussions about the movie, it made me a little sad that quite a few reviewers couldn't get past the supposed, apparent "formulaic" surface, and take a deeper look at its layers, as someone else mentions here. Our younger generation is so in need of this kind of message, of looking at life and themselves in a unique way, outside the sold-in-a-box happiness...

I had a few questions.
what do these quotes mean?
-To be the sailor of the world, bound for all parts
-O to have life hence forth the poem of new joys.
-To indeed be a god!

This website has greatly assisted me in preparing my students for our unit over historic poetry and the movie Dead Poet Society, which I like to show to my senior English students. Now I have a deeper history surrounding romanticism which I can in turn expose students to. Thank you for your time and energy.

There are so many levels to this movie and its poets.

I don't disagree with your analysis but feel the conflict presented by the movie was more along the lines of tradition and all that implies vs. free thinking. The end of the movie is not about romanticism vs. realism but rather about personal courage and integrity in the face of tradition and consequences from those in power.

I like to think those standing will prove to be the future leaders, full of honest integrity, while those sitting like Cameron were the type who made lots of money and had power before losing all when their dishonest (realism?) practices were caught. Wonder if they were able to survive the ignoble fall from grace and days in prison. LOL.

Interesting how many are thanking you for helping them write a paper about a movie concerning individualism and free thought. Perhaps a few missed the point.
